Intro
what is laborers rising?
Laborers Rising is a local union membership engagement initiative that will move 15,000 members to volunteer for their union. By joining together in solidarity, we have the ability to make our power known throughout our communities and the entire state! You can choose what actions or activities work best for you. Examples of Laborers Rising actions are volunteering to help with local community efforts, attending your scheduled union social events, joining a volunteer committee that meets monthly, attending food/clothing charity drives or even simply talking to your fellow members about getting more involved with their local union!
-
Are you a member of a New York State Laborers local union? Yes? Then YOU!
You have the power to help strengthen our union at the local, state and national levels. Committed members like you are the foundation of our great union, and your engagement with union efforts and actions has the ability to build our collective bargaining power and our union’s future. -
Every day, bad actors and politicians work hard to take away our union way of life - cut our pay, repeal safety protocols, put nonunion workers on jobs we fight for. No more. Our union was built on the backs of generations of men and women who gave their blood, sweat and even lives to provide us with union representation and protections. It is our responsibility to ensure that legacy never dies. When we fight as one, we have the power to secure the solid paychecks, benefits and dignified retirements we deserve. If you’re ready to take on that fight, YOU are the right member to join Laborers Rising!
-
First - joining the Laborers Rising movement is completely voluntary. Committing is your choice and your choice alone. Your local union will determine the activities that take place, and you can choose to participate in the activities that most interest you. Some examples may include:
Attending a union social event
Volunteering for a community cleanup project
Assisting with a food, clothing or charity drive
Attending a local government public hearing to advocate for a project or legislation that benefits the union and creates jobs
Joining a Volunteer Activities Committee (VAC) that meets monthly
Attending a rally, picket or job action
Simply speaking with other members about the importance of union involvement and attending your monthly union meetings
-
When you make the commitment to join Laborers Rising, your local union will schedule a time for you to take RiSE - a tiered educational curriculum about LIUNA, organizing, and other aspects of union activism imperative to our survival.

Laborers Rising will not cost a member anything monetarily.
The only cost is your time to commit to participating in the movement and its events.
